What is the white stuff that the male betta fish produces?

I have a small betta tank that has two male betta fish with a divider. I am finding white secretions from both of them when I try to clean their water or change it. What is that white stuff? Is it diarrhea or sperm? Yuck!! It appears to be at the bottom of their tanks and it has a slimey look to it.
it sounds to me that your fish have some kind of parasite or bacterial infection that is causing their protective slimy coating to slough off…you should search the internet for fish infections…type "bacterial infections of fish" or "parasites of fish" in your search engine and you will find a wealth of knowledge, and maybe get your fish treated before they end up dying….
This is probably the only betta question I can’t answer! I know that it isn’t sperm, they only produce sperm in the presence of a female while the eggs are being released. I’m sorry I couldn’t help. :-(
I wouldn’t worry about it a all because no one know’s a lot about it so i dont think it will be a problem! good luck!
Well is it like in the form of poop? If it is it could mean internal parasites.
I’m not sure what you’re seeing, but my bettas haven’t done anything like that! It’s possibly that what you’re seeing is pieces of uneaten food (especially if you feed them flakes) that have a water "fungus" growing on them, or the uneaten flakes themselves.
The fungus won’t hurt your fish if they’re healthy, but will infect them if they get a wound. The "fungus" will grow on anything organic. In two days, you won’t be able to see the bug that well.
You should be able to clean whatever this is out of the tank. If it does appear to be uneaten food, only give the fish what he’ll eat in about 2-3 minutes, twice a day. If your fish are in a bowl without a heater, they wont eat (or do) very much. They’re much happier when they’ve got about 2 gallons each and a water temperature around 76-80o, so they may not be eating as much as you think they will.
