How do i stop fish food and general waste from collecting on my live plant leaves?

This is in my small 20 liter tank. i have a good 'HOT' filter from aquael which is overkill for such a small tank, but it gets the job done very well. the problem basically is that excess food and fish waste (small red clumps) tend to gather on the leaves of plants. And I, feeling like an idiot, have to 'dust' the plant leaves every couple of days, and watch them get sucked up into the filter. any recommendations?

If there is food laying around the tank, you are feeding too much. Overfeeding, aside from food rotting around the tank, also causes the fish to produce more waste.
Aside from this, maintaining a tank is part of keeping a tank – once you decrease feeding you should find weekly maintenance should be enough to keep things decent. My recommendation otherwise is to not to feel like an idiot dusting your leaves if it needs to be done because fish poop doesn’t just disappear for anyones tank, and don’t be afraid to vacuum any waste not picked up by the filter with a syphon hose – a thin one so the suction is not too strong.
This seems to tell me you are using too much fish food. Try reducing how much food you give out, and also use a small spoon or net to scoop up the extra food after two or three minutes before the food sinks. If you don’t want to do that, you could always use a turkey baster or a gravel vacuum (which is almost the same thing) to suck up the excess food from the leaves. :)
