How do I get my betta fish to grow bigger?

29 July 2010 6 Comments

My betta fish is about the same size when I got it the year ago. How do I get it to grow bigger? Any food suggestions, anything?

Betta fish generally don’t grow once you get them from the store. If you bought him from a pet store, he was certainly already fully grown when you bought him.

They aren’t babies when you buy them. They pretty much finish growing during the first few months of life; at this point, they have nice finnage and are sold.

No doubt it was full grown when you bought it.
    Or it’s growth is stunted.

90% of bettas in stores are usually mature, like all fish they will continue to grow throughout their life, but that change will be barely noticeble (maybe half a millimeter a year, cant give u a precise number)

Bettas are weird when it comes to food because on one hand they will eat just about anything (especially things they are not “supposed” to) and on the other, they can be really picky. So here is a recap of what bettas will or will not swallow :)), starting with their favorite gourmet food at the top and going down hill from there

How often to feed. I recommend feeding your adult bettas once a day and your fries twice a day. If you really have nothing better to do, then you could also feed your adults twice a day, but cut the quantity of feed in half.
