i was wondering(im only allowed a 5 gallon tank) if one betta fish will be happy in a 5 gallon tank(ive heard they would be EXTREMLY happy)with heater and filtration. is there any types of invertabrates that from personal expiernece that u guys know will get along with him?

5 gal is a good size for a single betta fish.
You should be able to keep a snail and maybe some shrimp in there wiht it.

Yes. If you think he’ll be lonely, add a female. Their understated beauty makes a nice accent to his lovely red (or blue). And now, some females even come in bright colors as well. Some tips for your tank to keep your fish happy, healthy, and alive:
1. Landscaping. Add some plants to make the fish more confident, knowing he has a place to hide if necessary.
2. Partial water changes. Change the water 50% at least once every week, hopefully twice. A gravel vacuum will keep you from having to touch the fish. These water changes are essential to keeping clean water in your tank, and they aren’t as hard as they sound. JUST DO ‘EM!
3. Cycling. Bacteria convert ammonia from fish wastes (toxic) to nitrites (less toxic) and others convert nitrites to nitrates (even less toxic). Getting these Bacteria is key. Gravel holds these colonies as do the rotating thingies on filters such as the penguin boi-wheel.
4. Underfeeding. I use this title to emphasize not to overfeed. One flake per fish, 3x a day. Their stomachs are only the size of their eyes, and in the wild they eat many frequent but tiny meals.
You heard right! lol A betta would do great in a 5gal tank! You could get a few snails, they do a great job of cleaning the tank and they can be very interesting to watch to. Make sure that you tell the pet store you want the kind that do not reproduce like mad though! lol. Trap door’s, rams horn’s, magic’s are all good, they have baby’s sometimes but not to often. I have had 4 in my tank for a long time now, I was hoping they would have baby’s and they still haven’t.
your fish will be super happy on his own, normally happier but if you want another fish in the tank, pick something smaller than 2.5 inches and not very colorful and or with a big fanny tail.
your betta can only be in a 5 gallon tank on his own you can add a snail but that’s it
Yes a betta would be happy by itself. Some bettas like company. You could add shrimp or snails if you want invertabrates. I use Mystery snails in almost all my tanks. Or if you want fish you could try platies, tetras, sometimes guppies, and really any peaceful community fish. they cant be fin nippers
Alot of people dont think guppies and bettas are compadable but i have a bettafish who is like best friends with a female guppy. its weird i know, the betta doesn’t even act like a betta, more like a guppy. i put him in a tank to try to breed him with a female and while she was under the nest he was off doing his own thing.
So i had the betta and guppy seperate and my mom got mad at me and made me get a 2.5 gallon tank for them to share and they are still living together happily. But one of my other males has to stay alone because he hates all other oganisms in his tank. including snails! he ripped the intenas off one when i made the mistake of adding it to his tank.
The betta by nature in the wild is a solitary animal living in mudlflats in Thailand so I don’t think it would mind being "alone" in an aquarium but on the other hand it certainly doesn’t mind being in a tank with several buddies either.
they get along with the following invertebrates: apple snails, ghost shrimp, freshwater clams. these animals are scavangers too and will clean up the aquarium.
They will get along with the following vertebrates: african dwarf frogs, algae eaters, plecos, tetras, guppies, tiger barbs, and a few others.
DO not put in coldwater or larger fish varieties like goldfish as they will harrass the betta continously and bully it to death with their large side/aggressive behavior. also, the water temps vary and thus they won’t co-exist in the wild anyways.
You can add a ghost shrimp if you’re looking for an invertebrate.
It’s funny, the people on this board seem to go solely by "rules of thumb" for determining how many fish can be kept in a given volume of water. What they are not considering is the bioload. This is a good example, a ghost shrimp will not add to the bioload of a tank as they consume tank waste more than they produce. However, adding a LOT of ghost shrimp will affect the bioload such as if you were to add 20 to a small tank, the amount of waste produced will then exceed the amount of waste consumed.
In your 5 gallon with a Betta, I’d recommend only one (so as to avoid inadvertently getting a pair and the resulting reproduction!) and a small snail, such as a Ram’s Horn.
ghost shrimp and cherry shrimp

hed be perfect in there.
maybe you could add some ghost shrimp in there too; sadly bottom feeder catfish need to be at least in groups of 3-4, and would be overcrowded in a 5 gallon tank with a betta.
A single betta fish will thrive in a 5 gallon tank, and will do even better with a few live plants/filter and a heater. Goodluck with him/her.
