what is the reason that the water in my fish tank gets cloudy after cleaning?

14 June 2010 5 Comments

this is only the second time this has happened. this time I cleaned my tank and the time before that. I have'nt had this problem before. I add de-chlorinator, anti-fungal liquid and my water is as clear as it can be for 1 day and then it gets all cloudy like its really dirty. the last time it got cloudy it all of a sudden cleared up, but this time it has been cloudy now for about 2 days. do you have any suggestions?

When you clean your tank, how are you cleaning it? If you are cleaning your gravel (as in taking it out and cleaning it, not siphoning it), and cleaning your filter, then you are removing too much beneficial bacteria from your tank and it has to partially cycle again, which would cause cloudy water.

Is your fish tank in the sunlight or does it have bulbs on it?

It may be that theres too much algae being produced because of the light conditions in the tank. I found this other yahoo answer with the same sort of issue maybe it’ll help..
