What do I need in my cold water fish tank?

31 May 2010 4 Comments

I've got a small fish tank with 3 goldfish and a few accessories. I've been told I need something else in there that gives off bubbles or something to added oxygen etc into the tank. What is it that I need? Many thanks

oh you mean an air pump, yeah there pretty cheap just add an airstone on the tube you get with it.
this will agitate the top of the water.

a bigger tank for a start. how small is small and what kind of goldfish are they?

3 fancies will need at least 60 gallons with double filtration
3 commons will need 200 to 300 gallons with double filtration

goldfish can live for 20 years or more, but only if they are in the correct sized tank

    Uh-oh … 3 goldfish in a small tank is a problem already.
3 goldfish need about a 50-gallon tank, with not just an air bubbler, but a full-fledged filter.

Goldfish are among the biggest space hogs of common aquarium fishes.

What you would need is an air pump, tubing and an airstone. The pumps are made for various size aquariums and for small ones they are relatively cheap. Around $20. They pump air into the tank and create movement in the water that assists in oxygenating the water. More movement, more oxygenation and better for your fish.
