What are some good fish for a 75 gallon tank?

7 May 2010 8 Comments

My uncle just brought home a 75 gallon fish tank with just the gravel on the bottom, and nothing else.

It needs a good cleaning, no problem there.

What sort of fish are good to put in one that are easy to take care of?

My mom wants to put her betta in there, but i dunno if that's 'proper'.

What sort of fish can safely live with a male betta, or what fish can live in it without the betta? Also, how many of that fish can comfortably live in a 75 gallon tank, would they need a filter, what 'accessories' would be good to put in there?

They can't be very expensive, easy to take care of, and easy to clean up the tank whenever need be.

Tetras are the best for that. But you could also buy a clownfish.

Catfish, go fishing for them or buy them and when they grow you can sell them for some money.

Well one thing you should definitely get is a filter to clean out wastes. You should also cycle your tank before adding fish( http://www.firsttankguide.net/cycle.php ).

Depending on what fish you get, you might also need a heater.

Good accessories would probably be some plants or hiding places for your fish. Plastic plants are easier to take care of :D

Try: http://aqualandpetsplus.com/ to find the kind of fish you like. Remember to check how big they can grow so they don’t outgrow your tank.

Aside from fish, you might want to get some invertebrates. Snails are good for cleaning algae(even microscopic ones that you can’t see yet). Snails have different methods of reproduction, so make sure you look it up to ensure that you don’t get an army of them in your tank ^^ Aqualandpetsplus(site I linked before) also has information on on snails and shrimp and stuff :D:D

    Hope i helped :O

oO has the best answer there for ya there is no point coping him so have a look at these site here for cycling and for fish.your tank is a big one so some angel fish might be nice or tetras.if you are keeping the betta you should put him in a beta breeder tank to himself as they can be very aggressive to other fish.http://www.firsttankguide.net/cycle.php
    http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/Fishindx/fishindx.htm
get your self a test kit too as you will need to monitor the levels in your tank as it is cycling a good one is the api master test kit see below
http://cgi.ebay.com/API-Freshwater-Master-Test-Kit_W0QQitemZ170307092703QQihZ007QQcategoryZ20756QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem have a look on ebay for one at good value and finally you will need to get some gh salt and some water stress coat which is added each time you clean the tank and do a 20 % water change recommonded weekly.aslo make sure you have a heater and keep your tank heated to 24 to 28 c
    best of luck :)
