Help i killed all my sons fish cleaning his tank what is the proper way to clean a tank? I am going to buy him new fish and try i last time

im getting a fish tank and fish accessories but do i relay need the rocks/pebbles for the bottom of the tank?

We ran out of fish food, so can I crumble white bread into tiny crumbs for him to eat? Will he get sick? (The fish food is actually on our moving truck and we’re not moving until next week.)
