What can I do when a betta fish makes a bubble nest?

15 April 2010 4 Comments

I have 2 betta fishes, one female and one male; for the past few days I noticed that a male fish made a bubble nest, and I'm just wondering what can I do to help take care of it for them?

are they two bettas in the same tank? That can be dangerous if you aren’t watching them carefully. Are you trying to breed them? It may or may not happen. A male will build a bubblenest regardless of whether he is going to spawn or not, but if they decide to spawn, hopefully you will notice and take out the female, as she will eat the babies. There isn’t much you can do for the male and his nest; he knows what to do to take care of it. He’ll repair it as needed, and as for the babies, once they are free-swimming (can swim up and down as well as side to side on their own) you’ll need to remove him as well. Good luck with whatever you’re trying to do, and if you need answers as to how to take care of baby fish (fry), well, thats a whole nother question. :) Happy fishkeeping!

A bubble nest is good, it’s a sign that your betta is healthy.

are they in the same tank? I would seperate them if they are they may mate then fight if together. Otherwise a bubble nest is a good sign it means the male is happy. You do not want to have bettas mate, they will fight and the fry will probably die within hours of hatching if the adults do not eat them or the eggs.
