Discus fish tank(lets learn fish series) at LFS

Arrvenohx here! After a few minor problems with the uploader I am ready to go again. Discus fish: The discus fish is a beatiful jewel of a fish that comes from the amazon rivers and lakes. These fish can get rather large, so a large tank 50 gallons or more, is what I would reccomend. Discus fish come in all different varieties, and prices can range from 20$ to well over 500$. Discus fish are very shy fish. They will hide at the sign of danger. Keep them with very peacful fish (tetras, andgelfish). Just remember not to keep the angelfish with the tetras. Feed them discus food, and keep them in a hevily planted tank with soft water. Enjoy. Amazon fish tanks: The amazon fish tanks have captured the imagination and hearts of aquarists for decades. They are amazingly beatiful tanks. Heres how to keep them: Get a special aquatic soil or something like Seachem flourite. Get a C02 system, and install it. This is very important. Get a very VERY large light. One as big as shown here. This is also very important. Put in plant fertalizer every week. The recommended dose should be on the bottle. LFS means local fish store. These aren't my fish, unfortiunatnly. I filmed fish at the fish store because that was the only way to get such a variety of fish. If you have any more questions, feel free to send me a message. I'll be happy to answer.

Arvenohx you really do have a nice tank but the discus fish has low quality(too many black spot and body shape deformed) but every thing else are very nicely done(i like ur tetras)^^

  • Arvenohx said:

Okay, just to clear things up. These aren’t my fish!!! These videos are from my fish store, including this one. And they sell out of all of their high quality discus in a flash.

get some african cichlids they love high ph you will never have to worry about pouring chemicals into your tank

  • Arvenohx said:

Wow. Thats a really good question. Usually stores sell Ph lowers. I bet the discus buffer works great…

    nice tank
what lights do discus need? or support?

  • Arvenohx said:

I’d say full spectrum lights would do the job nicely. What do you mean by support?

  • 7ucky said:

    i mean resist…
someone told me 36watts is ok for discus
    how many watts those lights?

  • Arvenohx said:

36 watts would be great for discus. It’s good to get between 25-40 watts

  • bettaangel said:

are they hard to keep i like the look of them though the price is a bit much for mee becoz they like to be in shoals right?

  • Arvenohx said:

Discus are difficult to take care of. They are very finicky and easily stressed fish. I would deffinently not recommend this fish if you are looking for an relatively care-free fish.

  • bettaangel said:

what do you need for discus and what fish go well with them?

  • NintendoGenForumsGX said:

What do you mean by Make sure you do not keep the angelfish with the tetras? do you mean by the Angelfish may eat the Tetras due to there size?

  • Arvenohx said:

Angelfish (not discus) are voracious hunters. When they angels get big, they munch on the tetras.

  • Arvenohx said:

I reccomend a large tank 50 gallons plus with lots and lots of plant cover. Feed them high quality food and keep the water soft. Unlike the angelfish they are rather shy, so don’t put any mean fish in with them.

  • NintendoGenForumsGX said:

Well I’m a Angelfish Aquarist, however I don’t keep Tetras…Small tetras like neon tetras are compatible with Angelfish while both of them are small but once the Angelfish grow big and then you introduce them to new tetras, then those will be eaten. As the rules says Big fish eat small. I’m planning to get blue Turquoise and Green Turquoise Striped Discus but having trouble looking for them in my LFS.

do they go well with guppies?

I have a 55 gallon tank with guppies, tetras and 7 angelfish.

If I get discuss, is that Okay? will they fight with fin nipping?

How many discuss is suitable? a school?

  • Arvenohx said:

YOu shouldn’t have too much trouble. Discuss are very peacful and timid fish, so guppys would be a good tank mate. Schools of discuss are pretty, but require alot of work. I think the angelfish could stand in as the discuss’s school :)

  • Arvenohx said:

Ooh good luck getting a turquoise. Those are really pretty fish, but rather hard to find.

  • NintendoGenForumsGX said:

I manage to get some pretty Discus fish, but they were costly but hey its worth the money =]

  • Arvenohx said:

Again, careful about keeping the small guppies with the angelfish. Anglefish will eat them.
