i am thinking of getting a 30 gallon tropical biorb, ive heard they are good aquariums for beginners , and they look great too. i don't really know what fish to put into it, i definitely want guppies, and would be willing to decrease the number of neon's or angelfish for them. please help! i dont know what can go together!!!

I don’t know where you heard about bioorbs like that, but they’re not great. They’re overpriced, have poor surface area, terrible filtration and spares are expensive.
A longer, taller tank with a larger volume can be bought for the same as a 60 litre bioorb. The largest bioorb available is 60 litres, or 15 gallons. There are no 30 gallon bioorbs.
Also, Angels don’t stay small and will kill guppies and neons. Neons need to be in shoals of 6 or more. For a pair of angels you need 45 gallons tall or larger.
For every 2 inch fish, you need a minimum of 1 gallon of water. You can put those 3 types of fish together because they aren’t aggressive toward each other. You feed them the same food, but there are optimal pH and temperatures that these fish should live in. Neon’s like 5-7 pH, at 23 – 26′C. Guppies like 7 – 8.5 pH, at 20 – 30′C. Angelfish like 5.5-7.5pH, at 24 – 28′C. The recommended pH for these fish to be happy, should be around 7pH, and temperature should be 25 – 26′C.
Guppies, yes…neon tetras..yes…Angelfish..no…Angels will make a meal out of smaller fish and grow quite large. If you like guppies, go with just those and a couple of corydoras for bottom dwellers. I have heard negative things about biorbs, be careful with those, I’m old school and love the traditional tanks, they seem to cause less stress on fish and give fish a happier quality of life…
honestly DO NOT listen to the first post because 2 inches of fish=1 gallon? it’s bs…you cannot keep a 20 inch oscar fish in a 10 gallon. this rule is generally for guppies and neon tetras, but even then i don’t suggest this "rule".
i’ve never heard of a biorb but i couldn’t find any large sizes online. just get like a regular old rectangle or bow shaped tank if you want. the way an aquarium look really depends on the decoration, rock color, background, and fish. yea, if you want to do minimal cleaning i suggest a bottom dweller, cory cat fish as the above posters said.
so maybe put a few guppies, neon tetras, and a molly or two, but no angels! they get aggressive as they get older.
Instead of the angelfish, I would try a peaceful fish like mollies, platys,or swordtails. Angelfish can get aggressive and tetras and guppies are peaceful community fish. Angelfish also need more tank space and biorbs are not the best tanks for fish that need a lot of room.
Uh not all together
Hi I would suggest you get a plain tank. For the type and number of fish you want I would suggest you get at least a 20 gallon high tank. I would also suggest the you invest some time in doing research on the fish you are interested in. Make sure you start out with fish that are all about the same size. Also add fish to your new tank slowly and not all at once.
As others have said, the angelfish is a bit more agressive and will eat smaller fish especially guppy fry. On the other hand, I had a 30 gal and kept guppies, catfish, an 1 angel fish. It was heavily planted and many of the guppy fry lived but the angelfish kept the guppies from overrunning the tank by eating a some of the fry. The angel fish never touched the adult guppies or even nipped at them. Even adult guppies will eat the fry.
When you buy fish for a tank, you buy the tank for an adult fish. Angels need a 40 gallon tall to accommodate their tall bodies, you should have a group of angels, it cuts aggression in half. and the tetras will stress the angels…not a good combo. If you want angels glass catfish, , clown loaches, large tetras, danios, rainbowfish, catfish, platies, and gouramis.(you will need more then a 30 gallon) . Neon Tetras are natural prey, they will get eaten. One of the best tankmates for them is Swordtails. They will do well with lemon tetras and silver dollars.
I’ve heard of that rule aobut the 2 inches for one gallon, I think its just in general. This rule applies for fish that are common in aquariums such as swordfish, catfish, goldfish, neons, gourami, angelfish etc. that don’t grow to large sizes. That rule can work depending on the shape of the tank too. I have had angelfish mixed with guppies and they were fine. I fed them well too so maybe thats why angelfish didn’t attack my guppies.
They are all fine you could have some more fish in there, but the angels will eat the neons when they get bigger.
