How many flakes of fish food should I feed my betta?

I have the Tetra BettaMin Tropical Medley fish food, and I usually feed him a pinch every morning, but I'm starting to feel like it's way too much. My friend said only to feed him about three flakes...is this right? Am I overfeeding my fish?
Rule of thumb as to how much a fish can eat at once: Check the size of it’s eye. That’s how big it’s stomach is. You can feed your betta a little less than that twice a day. Skipping a day every so often isn’t bad, either. Especially if you feed it more than once a day. I’ve heard of some folks feeding two or three times a day for three days and then fasting their fish or cutting back by a day. As for me, I do twice a day, and fast after three. Bettas are tough. I’ve made some of mine go for 5 days without food to treat some health issues they had.
