These are mine and rainbows fish. they where both chosen for their recessive phenotypes. I plan to breed particular and rare phenotypes into the babies.

I’m not sure if you can do that. If the girl does not have any eggs and you do not prepare them for breeding – - – maybe it will work. But then again, maybe it won’t. You need to watch them carefully so your female does not get hurt. She needs hiding spots the male can’t get in.

Make sure your tank is a decent size. In a glass put the female, no plants is ok. Then put her/glass in the tank with the boy.

Cut a foam cup in half and place it somewhere in the tank. The male will be likely to make a bubble nest under the cup. It can take a couple weeks before anything will happen.

But basically the male should flare and “show off” to the girl by swimming around the cup. She may start to seem more interested in time, and then her tummy should start growing which means it will have eggs, and she may devlope vertical lines on her body which means she has eggs. After this all occurs you can add her to the tank with the male, but make sure she has a good hiding place because the male is likely to chase her for a period of a day or so.

Then they should start breeding near or under the bubble nest. Do no over feed your fish. Blood works are a great option, especially for the girl.

You should watch them closely. It is normal for him to chase her, but if it keeps going after 48 hours seperate them. It is scary, but its how they are. Make sure she has a good spot to hide, possibly where she can fit and he can’t. And in time when she is ready, she should approch him.

It takes about 2 days for the babies to hatch – and sometimes it can fail. If they do however, I think they’d need a bigger place to live. How big is your bowl?
Gorgeous female [ : I love double tails.
Thank-you very much! She is rare and pretty
