Feeding a betta fish different types of food?

5 February 2010 140 views 3 Comments

I have a betta fish and I feed him betta flake food on a regular basis. But, I’ve heard that bettas like different types of food (ie. pellets, etc.)

Would I be able to give these to my betta as a meal on the odd occasion? Or, are fish like dogs where you really shouldn’t change what they eat without gradually getting them accustomed to it first?

Thanks!

You can switch their food anytime.
I started my beta fish with blood worms and when I finished those I switched to flakes. They adjust to anything and you can change it at anytime!

    Hope I helped :)

Bettas are not like dogs, you can change their food whenever. They actually like some variety. Pellets are actually far better than flake type foods. Flake foods are hard to digest & it is easy to overfeed your betta. I’d suggest switching to Hikari Bio-Gold Betta pellets, then if you want you could occasionally feed a few freeze-dried bloodworms, or you could get an additional type of pellet with at least 40% protein.

Is your betta in a suitable tank? Bettas need at least 2.5 gallons with a heater.

Most Fish Eat Anything!! Betta’s are both plant and meat eaters so you could feed them anything from cucumber to worms, brine srimp, the list is endless…..
