can i use large gravel in a biorb?

can i take out the cermaic substate that came with the tank and replace it with large smooth gravel so that its not too sharp? i want to get an dwarf algae eater or some frogs?

    Large gravel isn’t good for small catfish. they prefer soft substrate such as sand, or peat moss.

    probably best for the frogs to be on their own in a tank, otherwise they have to compete for food.
