Betta Fish?

I think i am getting a ten or fifteen gallon tank, a betta, a few white clouds, live plants (java ferns) and a mystery snail or two. (at least this is the combo i am thinking of :D )
What would be the best (and most cost efficient) filtration brand/type? i think the slower the movement the better (for the betta). i am new to fish and want to make sure i do it right.
any tips would also be appreciated.

The filter doesn’t matter. Most Betta’s will adjust to the filter flow. Mine is in a 36 gallon tank with a canister filter and he just stays away from the hose. Also the white clouds are cold water fish and Betta’s are tropical fish, they won’t do well together. You could try a few neon tetras or a few swordtails. Just make sure you get all males if you purchase livebearers unless you want a tank full of babies.
Do not put all the fish in at once if you want to avoid a crisis where all the fish may go belly up.Although the white clouds like colder water and bettas like water that is warmer, the betta will probably adjust to the cooler temperatures. ;)
Thats all fine, but I wouldn’t go with the minnows. Those prefer cooler water than the betta. There are many other rasboras that will do just fine with a betta, like Harlequins or lambchops.
Any filter that you can adjust the water flow on to a low level is good for a betta.
for a filter i would get a pair of aquaclear mini hang on power filters, i love the fact that they are dead silent and very reliable(have had no problems with them compared to my penguin and biowheel filters, also easier to clean) you can also adjust the flow coming out of the filters. i’ve found that betta can quite happily handle a lot more flow than most people will give them credit for, with aquaclear filters you can always go bigger than you need and then just slow down the water flow to a point where you feel that your betta is comfortable. also white clouds come from cold, fast flowing mountain streams so basically care is about opposite from your betta. a few neon or cardinal tetras would probably be alot more suitable tankmates, although they do like a bit of water flow.
Biowheels are good. Be sure to get the appropriate size for your tank.
male betta the pretty ones will fight all other fish. they can live in small bowls no filter. I have them each for 3 to 5 yrs.
We have 1 in aquarium with 2 goldfish they get along fine.Do not put 2 male Bettas in same tank.
I have a bio wheel in a hexagon tank and love it. Also keep in mind that the betta get fiesty and it’s best to have bottom feeders or you can put in an African Dwarf frog.
Cyliest.
Very controlled.
Hint Hint, don’t put all the fish in at once, the water will get outta wack, wayyyyyy outta wack.
Be careful with any other fish in the tank, the betta would probably attack them. Ive had a few over the years and anytime I had them in tank with other fish, theyd attack them.
any power filter for a 15 gallon should be fine. i have a 20 with a betta and a marineland penguin 100 — you get get one for under 20.00 and it doesn’t need an air pump — its all one unit. they are usually quieter than airpump filters so if you want to put it in your bedroom then i would strongly suggest one. walmart has marineland stuff under a different name — aqua tech maybe? anyway it will be even cheaper and the filter pads are a lot cheaper – like 6 bucks for 3 at walmart and something like 11 at the pet store. it has a biowheel that i think might slow down the current — you can also cover the intake to slow the current if you need to.
you would have lots of space for more fish in either set up —
i have a 20 gallon with a betta 2 pearl gouramis 4 honey gouramis(i think they sell thick lipped gouramis as "sunset honey" gouramis), 3 dwarf gouramis, 2 guppies (leftovers) and 3 bamboo shrimp — they get along fine. the betta actually hangs out with the honey gouramis.
oh — all the gouramis are male — that makes a difference — they get territorial if they are breeding.
you would need a heater — the temperature in the tank should be 75-80 for the betta — most fish are fine with that.
java ferns are great! i have lots — i think one one the keys to keeping bettas with other fish are plants. a betta needs territory to call home and also they help break the line of vision so they aren’t just staring at each other constantly.
you will need to find instructions on cycling a tank with fish (just do a google search) — basically you will have to change about 10% of the water every 2-3 days for about a month. its not as much work as it sounds like it might be. a lot easier than cleaning the bottom of a gerbil cage and not as smelly either.
