i ma thinking about getting a salt water tank and have decided to get a 55 gallon tank, not to big to handle and not to mall that the water is hard to get just right. i am saving up for it and was wondering if anyone can give me an average price for all the accessories and tank, fish not included.

I’ve seen them from $149.00 to $218.00 at various pet stores. it all depends on where you go really. Everyone has their own price.
however you can always work around the price by finding used tanks… look in newspapers, at rummage sales, so on. I sold a 75 gallon tank at a rummage last year for next to nothing, because I was moving and it would cost more to move it than to get a new one.
The accessories would be
say about $100 for all the decorations (real plants, gravel, coral, ect.)
$25 for a bag of salt water salt that you will need
$12 for an instrument that measures salinity to make sure you have the right levels of salinity for the specific saltwater fish
$40 for a special water testing kit for nitrates, nitrites, amonia (I just got one. I’ve been finding strips to be somewhat inaccurate or at the very least, not 100% right)
the fish are a different story. Saltwater fish can be mucho expensive.. and unfortunately, because they are harder to care for… if your $80 puffer dies a day after taking him home… there is no refund
Im not really sure how much they cost becuse im not into it but they are usually over $100 dollars heres a link to some that i found.

a 55 gal kit can be 170 bucks but don’t forget you need sump, skimmer, live rock and sand and a lot of other stuff which will make the price soar!!
In all honesty, all the things you will need for a saltwater setup, should you do a FOWLR (fish only with live rock) setup will cost you around $1000. Think about it, live rock will cost you a lot of money, somewhere around $15/lb at least by me, you’ll need the tank ($150-210), sand, you’ll need a protein skimmer, the filter (duh) (be ready to spend $200 on that), at least 1-2 powerheads ($75), and you’ll need to buy the right type of bulbs for your live rock and for the coral and anemones (Should you get any) to grow.
