My Betta Fish – [[Avon Jasper]]

28 January 2010 25 Comments

My multi-coloured veil tail betta fish from Wal-Mart. He's in a 1 gallon tank and I may upgrade in the future but as of now, it's much easier to keep a close eye on him and treat him when needed. (Also, I think he's much better off in a one gallon than a tiny cup). But I do water changes weekly and although he doesn't have a heater, my room feels like a sauna...okay maybe not...but it's extremely warm all year round. Leave a comment please? =) Update: YAY!! He's got his own little 2.5 gallon ...

OMG, that’s just horrible. I hope somebody rescued the poor guy.

I’ve heard many times that after the fish was used as a centerpiece, they were then dumped/flushed if nobody wanted them. =(

be aware of plastic plants because it will sometimes rip the betta’s gills

you seem to have a lot of walmart stores that dont treat bettas properly in america dont you? in the uk they are treated really good compared to the way this walmart store treats them. they all have clean filtered water and are very healthy.

im crying. just the thought of him in a dirty cup suffering and you saving him. its so sweet it makes me cry! hes so beautiful. im subscribing you just for that.

yeah, sadly, most stores in canada and the US house bettas in tiny cups that are half filled with dirty water. =( They only want to make money and don’t care about the fish. I guess some do take care of their bettas, but that’s quite rare, from what I’ve seen.

I’m glad that at least some stores treat bettas with the proper respect they deserve. :)

aw, thank you =) i just wish I could save all the bettas though.

well i’ve got 2 male bettas and 6 female bettas, the two males both have their own tanks and the females live in a 60ltr tank in my front room. all the bettas i’ve ever seen in my local fish shop treats them very well. That is one reason why i always go back there because they treat fish properly not in bad water or anything.

He looks almost like mine! Avon is beautiful! Keep up the great work. My 2nd betta doesn’t have a heater either and he’s doing fine since the temp in my house can be up to 88 degrees farenheit.

Aww he looks like my own betta fish except mine is a Crown Tail with a red top fin. I rescued mine from petsmart and I debated on buying him because he looked half dead in the little cup. I’m glad I did because now he’s extremely healthy and I love him so much. <3

He’s a gorgeous betta. Did he make it? If not, sometimes there’s just nothing you can do. He looks so happy and healthy there! It’s amazing what a little TLC and clean water can do for a fish!

he looked very happy in his last days. Walmart is evil and should not sell fish. Next time get one from a good pet store. Ask around and get some recommend pet stores..
