if you divide the tank, you can keep 2 bettas in there.

keeping female bettas without dividers won’t work either because for them to have a chance at forming a pecking order, they must live in groups of atleast 3 and they also need extra space and hiding places. I still think keeping 4 and up is better.

male bettas cannot live with other males or females under any circumstances (unless its a huge heavily planted tank, and even then i don’t know why someone would want to try it).

If you are keeping a filter, make sure it has water flow control. If it is a 6gal, i really do reccomend you keep a filter. Bettas can live without filters in smaller tanks where you would have to do regular water changes but for 6gal i really think a filter would be great. Learn how to cycle the tank (google it).

Bettas do need temps of 70-80 but 75-80 is best so i always have heaters for them.

lie they do need filters and only one fish per tank unless the tank s split apart

betas fight any other fish although they might be pretty get a differant kind or just one :(

Bettas can’t be kept with other bettas or they will fight to the death. You could get some corys or tetras, the betta will ignore them. And bettas do need a filter and heater.

You can only have one male betta per tank–they will kill each other immediately. Female betta fish are ugly and hard to find sometimes. They are extremely territorial. Look at the site below under warnings–they can’t share a tank together. A male betta will do well with other fish, but not other bettas. Enjoy your fish. Good luck

NEVER PUT ANY MORE THAN ONE MALE BETTA IN THE SAME TANK WITHOUT DIVIDERS. Females can be in the same tank, and they need 2 gallons per fish. So, two or three fish is great, BUT NO MORE. Be sure to have lots of crevices and vegetation for them to hide in case a fish tries to attack.

I would not recommend to put more than one betta. not because its over stocked but because of aggresiveness. The tank is to small to keep a good territory among 2 or more bettas. If you get a tank with more space, you can house 2 FEMALE bettas.

1 Betta in that size tank – remember, FIGHTING fish.

The betta can survive pretty appaling conditions, but if you want to care for it properly get a small filter of some kind and a heater. The tank size is great for a betta.

    1. Betta’s need 5 gallons per fish.

They need heater, filters, and a light.

The heater temp should be set at 77 °F.

A low flow filter, like a Whisper In-Tank filter ( http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=12085&cmpid=03csegb&ref=3312&subref=AA&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=0018870000000 ), is ideal for a betta. They have those filters at Wal-Mart, you’d want the 10i, for 2-10 gallon tanks.

They’d most likley fight and kill each other if you were to put them together.

I’d say stick with one MAYBE two females. One male by himself would be the best. They do need filters, but not aerators. They have a labyrinth organ that allows them to breath air from above the surface.

One male or three females,no more.
It’s true that Bettas can live without a filter, but it will increase your work load to maintain one in this manner. Also your fish would benefit from having a small thermostatic heater. They prefer temps in the high 70′sF.A simple sponge filter powered by a gentle air lift makes a much better environment and an easier to care for tank.

Bettas fight like there’s no tomorrow. Just put one betta in one tank. If you wish, you can put in 5 endlers in the tank and let them breed and let the betta have fresh food each time an endler gives birth to live fry.

    Bettas need;

    *sponge filter
    *heater
    *tank (2.5 gallons or greater)
    *aquarium salt
*live plants ( artificial plants can do damage to fins)
    *substrate
    *substrate vacuum
    *chlorine remover
*various kinds of fish food (soak food in removed tank water before serving)

You can’t have males together and females sometimes don’t get along. If you buy a tank divider you could get 2 males or you could get 2 females. You need to be aware that sometimes they don’t work. They need a heater and no they don’t need a special filter. They do not need aerators, but need filters. Hope I helped!

a filter is a good idea to have as it will help remove waste, but an aerator is not needed since bettas breath from the surface. Male bettas are territorial and should best be kept with other tropical semi-agressive fish. As for females they can be semi territorial but can be housed together if they are all the same size. A good rule of thumb is one inch of fish per gallon MAX.

Hey, nobody is helping you out here.

I have a betta, hope this helps.

male betta fish will fight to death if put together, but female bettas won’t. In a 6 gallon tank, you could put in 3 female bettas, MAX. no more, or you’re overstocked. females are very pretty, just not as pretty as the male bettas. However, if you divided the tank with a divider, you could put in two male bettas. t hat way they’d each get 3 gal. which is enough for them

Bettas can live without filters or heaters, that’s true, but in a 6 gallon tank with 3 bettas, i highly recommend you get a filter. but a heater is totally unneccesary. the filter will decrease the water changes. But if your house is super hot sometimes, and then freezing cold, i’d get a filter so your betta doesn’t roast or freeze. 75-80 degrees F.

get a soft filter, bettas don’t like strong currents in their water. a sponge filter is best. Don’t forget to cycle the tank at least a week before adding fish in.

good luck. bettas are a joy
