Fish tank cleaning question?

Is it okay to use a brand new never benn used household sponge to clean the inside of a fish tank that is setup. I dont have the cash to buy one specially for fish tanks.

    you can use almost anything…sponges, paper towels, and or an old rag

    Make sure it’s a PLAIN sponge, no detergents or magic germ killing properties.

    yes, i have had a tank for years and don’t buy anything special. Anything can be used as long as it is clean and bacteria free.

    possibly, some are treated with stuff. try running it under water and squishing it around. most will have some bubbles or something. if there is nothing, it *might* be safe to use. I’d run it under water for a few minutes, then soak it in some conditioned water for a while.

    however, to be safe, why not just use paper towels or napkins?
