Betta fish?

I have a fish aquarium with only one fish in it and was wanting to put one of my betta fish in it. The fish in the tank is a cory catfish i think and i didn't know if the betta would attack it or not since they're notorious for even trying to attack their own reflection. Would it be safe to put the betta in without it attacking?

Betta’s tend to only be aggressive with their own species. I keep all of my female Betta’s in a community tank. I have three female Betta’s in my community tank at the moment and they get along fine. There was a bit of a dispute at first but on the pecking order was established they pretty much just leave each other alone
the male betta fish will attack and kill any other fish in the tank with it
I put a beta in with like five gold fish it ended up hideing in a hollow castle and dieing T-T I FEEL SO BAD
i know someone that put their betta in with gold fish and they were all ok
every pet store person i’ve ever talked to has adivised against puttin betta w/any other fish
Some pet stores will tell you which fish are ok together- unfortunately Bettas do not get along with much. Do not put them with oscars, other bettas, or guppies. Have no recollection of what they *do* get along with… Is been a while since I’ve had one, but if you can’t find out at your pet store, you can get a book about aquarium fish.
Well, I don’t think the beta fish would attack the catfish, but isn’t the catfish a lot bigger than the beta? I wouldn’t put the two together for the beta’s sake. Then again, if you did, you’d save a little on catfish food :)
Usually bettas will coexist with corys peacefully, but there are some bettas out there that are just plain ornery…so if you try it, have a back up plan.
Well. I have had many Bettas. I’ve raised them and kept them as pets with other fish. I have had Bettas with catfish, snails, goldfish, tetras, young cichlids and many other types of fish. The betta will be curious, but for the most part I doubt that they will have to much trouble together. The catfish you are speaking of is a tough fish anyhow. Provide a few hiding spots…caves… for your catfish and I’m sure all will be fine!!! However, the bettas temper is hot!!! The key is always going to be providing hiding spots…maybe several….for any fish kept with a betta!! I would recomend at least a ten gallon tank, to give any other fish ample room and hiding.
Most likely it will be fine. Bettas are aggressive with other betta, or fish that look like betta. Generally a catfish like a cory won’t trigger aggressiveness in a betta. Also you are putting a betta in with other fish. Which is better than the reverse as the betta hasn’t bonded with the tank yet. Still you’ll need to keep an eye on him, and jar him if gets out of hand.
PS- Avoif crowntails.
PPS- Cory are social fish. He’d prefer another cory even if it’s another type of cory.
Many pet store workers have no clue what they’re talking about, so I’ll tell you now, research and don’t ask them.
Bettas can and will live peacefully with fish that don’t have colorful, flowy fins or fish that leave them alone.
Bettas will live with corys, tetras, goldfish, and a few other fish w/o attacking, or being attacked.
(BTW. for those who will say that goldfish are coldwater and don’t belong with bettas. Not true, the two are from the same area and therefore go through the same temperature ranges. The goldfish are just much more messy.)
I have had many male bettas.. ever since i got my first fish tank, i put my male betta in it and he always seemed to do fine w/ other fish(he was in w/ zebra danios, a plecostamus, and even 2 female bettas) Mine never showed much agression to other fish, although they were definately the boss of the tank. He would however, usually puff up at his reflection.. but ive never had any problem w/ my male bettas.. i dont have one right now, but i plan to get one soon, along w/ alot of other fish to restock both my fishtanks.. also, my male bettas were in a 10 gallon fishtank w/ 3 or 4 longtailed zebra danios and 2 female bettas.. and a plecostamus…and they all did fine. Well hope that helps!
Go ahead. Nothing bad is going to happen. Bettas will fight only with males of same species. Fight will end up in death. ok with others.
Whats the size of other fish?
