I wanna keep discus, but the daily water changes scare me off. How do you do it, and especially with gravel since many say that a bare tank is best. Also, is the sponge filter the best or I can be fine with a top-of-the range eheim filter? Give me all the tips you can please. Your fish are VERY beautiful!

thanks,i changed the water once a week(80% new water in) when i used the top sponge filter, the sponge must be cleaned everyday, and the gravel must be cleaned now and then.then i changed it into an automatic machine filter,it’s quite easy, you only need to change water and clean the machine inside once a month.but be sure they have enough lighting time(i gave them 10 hours everyday) and weekly put in some bacteria liquid especially for the discus.i got all of this in the fish shop.

Discus don’t swim too much… they are animals that preserve energy. Don’t know why, but I’ve been to the amazon before, and wild discus only swim fast when they need to… otherwise they would be swimming very slowly or just at one place.

  • TobiramaSensei said:

What do you use for the plants? like special type of light?or just normal florescent lighting?
