Tropical fish need a heater and your fish don't need a heater or like it too warm.
Choose carefully and don't over crowd the tank. Figure the amount of fish you can have by the size when they are full grown.
You might like a schooling fish. They would travel in a group. But could not be too small as to be eaten.

Tropical fish cannot live in cold water - there are some tropical fish that can live in lower temperatures, but you would need to look this upto see which species can tolerate lowere temperatures - I wouldn't recommend tropical and gold fish in the same tank. There are some beautiful tropical fish out there if you look ;-)

Goldfish cannot live in tropical conditions. The warmer the water, the less capable it is at holding dissolved oxygen. Goldfish have a fairly high metabolic rate, this will increase when the water temperature rises and will increase the demand for oxygen.
