Beta Fish Laying Eggs

27 July 2009 25 Comments

I was surprised to catch this on video. I have never seen anything like this before. Two Beta fish courting and laying eggs building a bubble nest.

your a dumbass you shouldve tooken out all those plants the eggs will get lost inside and the dad cant pick them up

The plants give the female a place to hide and live. The male is very dominate in the tank and watches her every move. When feeding she only gets what falls through the plants to the bottom. This is teh reason for teh plants and gravel.

Your female looks pretty beat up. Is it, or is that just the video quality? Cool video, my male looks similar to that one.

nice spawn but thn too much stuff in the tank and there’s no nest.

there should be nothing in the tank. only 1 floating plant to hide the female. No gravel

Did any of the fish ever hatch? It looks like the male was actually eating the eggs. ~ Fer

I used a flower pot base but it is the same thing and they bred.

NO! They should have more than one floating plant because bettas fry will eat micro-organism of the floating plants. But its real that is not a correct aquarium for breeding… BUT DO NOT PUT GRAVEL AGAIN + THE WATER SHOULD BE AT 15CM HIGH!

  • pantsie1988 said:

no, he was collecting the eggs in his mouth and spitted them out and collected them all together at the upper corner

    it’s their nature :D

Those are huge Betas. Ho long does it takes them to grow up like this????

  • pccrazy1 said:

They were about 1 year old.

Unfortunatly I did not know in time to turn the filter off earlier. The water needs to be still for the fish to build the nest

Make sure to turn your pump off and let the water slime up at the top so they can build their bubble nest.
