Robot Fish Takes To The Sea

Robotic Fish

This is an amazing bit of kit that has been developed by scientists for research into water purity. The robot fish costs an amazing £20,000 which would make me very nervy about dropping it in the sea! It is the BMT group, a UK company, that is behind the mechanical fish. They are planning on releasing 5 of these robotic fish into the see off Gijon, Spain. The main job is to detect oil leakages and pollution which is done through tiny chemical filters that are fitted to the fish, this is then transmitted back to the base through WIFI.

These fish are even able to swim without any human direction which is why it doesnt surprise me that there are plans, if all goes to plan, to roll them out worldwide. Lets hope they dont get mistaking for the real thing by any hungry predators!

Scientists around the world have been developing all kinds of robot fish for a variety of different reasons. Some are recreating extinct species, not sure what use a prehistoric robotic fish would have although the thought of a kind of jurassic aquarium where they can be viewed swimming around lifelike would be very interesting…….hmmmm
