Koi Pond Construction: Introduction To Koi Ponds

28 April 2009 No Comment

Koi ponds have become quite popular throughout the world, filled with gorgeous and lively fish that will surely brighten up your day! They come in a wide variety of colors and patterns, and with this, everybody will be able to find at least one single type of Koi that they'll like. Your pets themselves have an interesting history. In Chinese tradition, the construction of the pond is said to bring good luck to its owner, as they are used as an overall plan to fullfill his/her own lives.

In other places, these ponds are used for relaxation and serenity. In the U.S., more people really find these outdoor ponds fun to watch and see. The pond, with its beautiful water and fish, is sure to brighten up your day!

Now, before creating your outdoor pond, you must be able to learn all of the things you need to know before getting the things you need for the pond's construction. With this, you won't be able to slip up and have to replace anything that you've already done or purchased. A good planning will save your money and sanity!

It's also important for you to learn the info you need yourself, rather than relying on others. Product dealers and pond builders have only limited knowledge when it comes to this, that's why you shouldn't give them your full trust, as they're selling products too, thus having bias. Plus, if you're now at home with your Koi, they won't be able to help you if problems arise.

Constructing your pond:

Before you purchase your fish, create first a right habitat for them, which is the pond. Now, this is where the supplier and pond builder will be able to help you. However, it's always good to do research on your own and not relying only on their own opinions, before buying the materials you need. The information you're going to need can be found at local libraries, the Internet and fishery centers. Keep in mind that there are a lot of things you're going to need in order to sustain a habitable pond for your pets.

When we talk about pond sizes, the bigger, the better. This is because the fish can grow very long in size, so you have to consider enlarging the pond size as well as to how many of them will you put in the pond. You'll also need the necessary filtration system, which is very important. Biological filtration is the one that causes the nitrogen cycle, and this is the one that removes those dissolved wastes from your pond (without this, those built up wastes will turn into ammonia that can be very dangerous for your fish).

Mechanical filtration relieves the pond of fish wastes, dead algae and insects (enough filtration is very important to sustain the pond's size and your pets' number and size.

Plus, you may need to construct your outdoor Koi pond in a way that it'll appeal to the eyes of the spectator. You can have those add-ons like fountains, waterfalls, and other features which will help create sound and movement to your pond. You can also add a wide variety of beautiful plants and flowers in order to enhance the visual appeal.
