How much electricity does a tropical fish tank use?

21 April 2009 One Comment

aquarium-lightI am thinking of getting some tropical fish, but do not want to pay a huge bill for the electricity to run the heater for the tank.
How much electicity does the heater for the tank use? Would it be expensive?
I would have a medium/small tank.

Best way to check is to find the electrical tag on the tank, light and heater then multiply the wattage (this could be 100 watt, 60watt etc etc) by the amount of times used a day.

Multiply this number by costd of KW hour that will be given by your electric provider. This will give the total cost per day.
as a guidline 127 watts = .127 Kw. The watts need to be given in Kw prior to any calculation. Remember to multiply costs by 365 to get an annual costing. This shouldnt however be too much.

Energy per day = power ( watts ) x ( TIME PER DAY)

Cost per day = energy per day x cost per Kw
