The fundamental factors for the growth of aquarium plants are light, carbon dioxide, nutrients, and substratum. The reason why your aquarium plants are dying will most likely be due to the lack of the above-mentioned factors. Light is the important factor for the growth of aquarium plants since it is a must for photosynthesis. This factor is probably the number one reason that your aquarium plants are dying. To avoid this, you must provide optimum light to your aquarium plants by fitting the hood with suitable fish tank lights, and ensure the lights are working properly. The duration of light is also another important factor to control the growth of the aquarium plants; therefore, knowing about the photoperiodism of your aquarium plant will help you a lot.

The choice of plants is also an important factor in why the plants of your aquarium are dying. You must choose right variety of plant to your climatic condition. Do not try to keep marine plants in freshwater aquarium or freshwater plants in marine aquarium. Do not try to keep floating plants; fully submerged aquatic plants are always the best choice. If you find any transparent leaves, they indicate that the leaves are dying! If there are cottony growths on the surface of the leaves of the aquarium plants, it is evident that there is fungal infection; you can get rid of this by using proper medication.

Deficiency of some elements such as iron and potassium may also lead to aquarium plants dying. In this case, you can rectify the problem by adding some fertilizer tablets to your fish tank. Some times, besides killing your aquarium fish, the chlorinated tape water may harm your aquarium plants. Therefore, always use pure water.

Carbon dioxide is another important factor for photosynthesis of any green plants. To provide sufficient carbon dioxide to your aquarium plants, you must keep your aquarium water clean and aerated. This can be achieved by fitting genuine aquarium filters and air pumps. Besides supplying oxygen to your pet fish, the air supplies carbon dioxide to your aquarium plants.
